When Leaving is Not Always an Option: Safety Planning with People with Disabilities



Summary
Safety Planning with People with Disabilities will outline the unique needs of survivors of domestic and caregiver violence who have disabilities. This webinar will provide suggestions for outreach to increase services to and remove barriers in services to survivors of domestic and caregiver violence who have disabilities, specifically around safety planning. The facilitator will also identify concrete strategies for safety planning directly with an individual with disabilities and indirectly through their non-abusive support person. This session is designed for victim service workers wanting to work more effectively with survivors who have a range of disabilities and specifically with survivors with cognitive disabilities who still live in congregated.

Cema Mastroleo
Disability Services Education Manager - SafePlace
Cema Mastroleo has a Master of Education from the University of Texas at Austin. She has 14 years of experience providing personal safety, healthy relationship and sexuality education to people with disabilities. Cema has 7 years experience coordinating training programs on disability awareness and accessibility for the criminal justice system and providing training to Adult Protective Services. Cema has 30 years experience working with people with disabilities in the United States and Brazil.
How To Attend
Join the live program from your office, home, or hotel room using a computer for the web portion and telephone for the audio portion. You may ask questions, participate in surveys, and post comments from your computer during the program. You may also invite colleagues to watch the program from a shared computer or projection screen and speakerphone. Please note that credit (if available) is only provided to registered attendees participating at their own computer and phone. Simple instructions with a link to the program will be sent when you register.
